Wind and Weight:Most cantilever umbrellas are sold without base weights, so they must be purchased separately.
Given that this type of umbrella cannot stay standing without weights they are not optional, unless the standard umbrella “T-base” is bolted to the deck. That’s not an appealing thought, or even an option that many owners would choose.

Tilting the umbrella into the wind on a breezy day should transfer the wind shear force down into the base rather than away from it. That will reduce the chance of the umbrella tipping over and getting damaged.
The best cantilever umbrellas are generally equipped with a foot activated mechanism to easily rotate the umbrella a full 360º turn when needed.
But when the weather goes from a light breeze to a wind it’s time to close the umbrella and deploy its cover if you have one.
Of course it can. Most offset umbrellas come with pre-drilled holes in their cross shaped base.
Just remember the umbrella will produce a high level of stress on the screws and the deck, so plan to “over engineer” the job. Drill into the deck sub-structure if you can.
ALWAYS: Keep in mind if the umbrella loses it’s ability to tip over in very high winds then it’s lightly to suffer structural damage on the canopy supports or at the base of the pole.
Offset and cantilever umbrellas that are manufactured with an air vent in the canopy will need a minimum of 10 pounds per foot of canopy diameter. i.e. A 12 foot umbrella will need an absolute minimum of 120 lbs of ballast to keep it stable in light winds.
For offset umbrellas without a vented canopy go to 15 lbs per foot.
A very few Cantilever Umbrella manufacturers do offer replacement canopies for their products.

Given the price of the best cantilever umbrellas it makes sense to have access to replacements for the one “perishable” part of the product.
After market replacement canopies are available but are generally just for round 9 foot canopies.
Cleaning is essential to maintain the appearance and longevity of a cantilever umbrella. Fortunately it’s easy. Use a mild soap and water solution to clean the fabric, and avoid using harsh chemicals that could damage the material. Inspect and tighten any loose bolts and screws regularly.
Cantilever umbrellas are sun shade, but typically the better quality ones are made from water-resistant fabric. They can withstand a light rain for a period of time.
